Drawing Fashion from Design Museum on Vimo
The exhibition excellent and fascinating and if you have any interest in fashion, art, or history I highly recommend you go and see it. It was eye opening to see what can be achieved with different techniques and media, and above all how the illustration can encapsulate the culture and feeling of a period, not just the fall of the fabric of a dress.
I love the range of effects the images showed you could get with prints. Shows how an illustration can be all about the clothes with no person as such. http://ffiongriffith.blogspot.com/2010/12/design-museum-fashion-talks.html |
The beautiful images have persuaded me to invest in some decent watercolour brushes and challenged me to confront the importance of a precise silhouette. I amazed at how much information you can get from the image on the left, you not only get the feel of the outfit but almost the personality and confidence of the model as well- just with a few blocks of colour. Part of the exhibition The exhibition covered the whole of the 20th century and it was fascinating to see, not just how fashion, history, and culture changed but through these things, how the role of women and what makes the ideal women has changed too. |
